WHO IS REV. FR. MBAKA?

It really bothers me to hear so many reports of this single person credited with speaking routinely from both sides of the mouth and relentlessly offering opinions that he does not have. Is he a spokesperson for the catholic church in Nigeria? Is he the spokesperson of Nigerian Christians or is he just another wannabe politician costumed in a cassock and well-rehehearsed for a role that involves one controversy after another?

I love when a person has his faith clearly set out before him. But when faith is made into a weapon, then we must resist it.

He delivered a message entitled, “From Goodluck to Bad Luck” at the Adoration Ministries ground on New Year’s Eve. The fiery Catholic priest and founder of the highly regarded Enugu-based Adoration Ministries, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, in recent times has persistently warned the electorate not to vote for the candidate of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), President Goodluck Jonathan, in the forthcoming February 14, 2015 presidential election. He has further prophesied that the re-election of President Jonathan will spell doom for the country.

Recently, I 'heard' from a usually reliable source that for some time now, the Catholic community has been nursing grudges against the president following insinuations that he has been parleying with the Anglican Church, while neglecting the Roman Catholic Church. President Jonathan is said to be an Anglican.

Stories also have it that Gen Muhammadu Buhari the presidential candidate of APC, had sent a powerful delegation to Enugu on December 31, 2014, to court the support of Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka.

What bothers and amazes me presently as I write this troubled post isn't the many political intrigues of the coming elections but the person of Rev Fr. Mbaka. Who is he? How did he become so significant to the Nigerian Press and Nigeria's politics? And why is he morphing from a priest to an icon of controversy?
